Plot your course to financial independence.

A growing suite of calculators — net worth, FI number, debt payoff, spending, mortgage vs. invest, and more to come — each one modeled properly, not oversimplified. Every tool runs in your browser, feeds one shared dashboard, and saves nothing anywhere else.

Tools

Each tool is self-contained. Open the ones you need — every reading feeds the same dashboard.

How it fits together

No sign-up step — the first tool you open is the first thing your dashboard knows about.

1

Open a tool

Start with whichever one you need. It registers itself the moment you use it — nothing to configure.

2

It saves locally

Your numbers live in this browser only. Export a backup any time; import it on another device.

3

The dashboard reads it

Every tool publishes the same handful of standard readings, so the dashboard adds up automatically.

Why it's built this way

Real math, not a rule of thumb

Each calculator models your actual numbers year by year — a mortgage payoff, a pension starting later, a debt snowballing down — instead of leaning on a flat rule of thumb.

We respect your privacy

Personal finance is personal. No account, no server, no analytics tied to what you enter — your numbers stay on your device, full stop.

Modular by design

Each tool stands alone and speaks a shared, simple language to the dashboard — new instruments slot in without touching the others.

100% free, the way the internet should be

No paywall, no premium tier, no email gate to unlock a chart. Every calculator is free to use, in full, for as long as this site exists.

Frequently asked

What tools does FI Compass include?
A net worth tracker, an FI calculator with a full retirement solvency simulation, a debt payoff planner (avalanche or snowball), an expense audit, and a mortgage payoff vs. invest calculator — with more on the way. Every tool publishes to the same dashboard automatically, so you don't have to add anything up yourself.
What is a financial independence (FI) number?
It's the amount invested you'd need so that withdrawals can cover your expenses indefinitely. The common shortcut is annual expenses ÷ 4% — FI Compass's calculator uses that as a starting point, then runs a full year-by-year simulation of your actual savings, income, and spending to show when you'd really get there.
How is this different from a basic 4% rule or FIRE calculator?
Most free FIRE calculators just divide your expenses by a withdrawal rate and stop there. FI Compass's calculator instead simulates your finances year by year — accounting for a pension starting later, a mortgage getting paid off, one-time windfalls, or planned changes in spending — so the number reflects your actual timeline, not a single static snapshot.
How does the dashboard work?
Each tool publishes a small set of standard readings — net worth, FI progress, debt-free date, and so on — the moment you use it. The dashboard just reads those readings and adds them up. There's no sync step, no linking accounts, nothing to configure.
Is my financial data stored anywhere?
No. Every calculator runs entirely in your browser and saves to that browser's local storage only. Nothing is sent to a server, there's no account, and no one but you can see your numbers. Export a backup file any time you want to move data between devices.
Is FI Compass free to use?
Yes — every tool in the suite, including the net worth tracker, FI calculator, debt payoff planner, expense audit, and mortgage payoff vs. invest calculator, is free, with no account, subscription, or usage limit. New tools get added over time, all feeding the same dashboard.
Is this financial advice?
No. FI Compass is a set of calculators for modeling your own numbers, not personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Double-check the assumptions behind any projection before acting on it, and talk to a licensed professional for decisions specific to your situation.
